 1961年，我国国民经济正处于严重困难时期，中共中央起草了《人民公社工作条例（草案）》（简称《60条》）。4月1日，国家主席刘少奇回故乡湖南，考察农村工作。当他看见一双双饥饿的眼睛和一张张狼吞虎咽的嘴时，对《60条》是否符合农村实情产生了疑问。他召开干部座谈会听取意见，与会者却闪烁其辞。刘少奇于是到群众中去，与老百姓直接交流，了解到了人们对公共食堂的反感。他把得到的情况写信向毛主席汇报。

　　World War II is around the corner, but the only thing Sally Bauer can think of is the ocean. Her dream is to swim across the English Channel. In late August 1939, Sally stands on the shore at Dover and takes her first step into the English Channel. She swims across the open and icy sea for 15 hours, waving to the Navy who are readying for war. A couple of days after Sally swims ashore at Calais, Poland is invaded.
